Identifying Bed Bug Infestations

At adulthood, bud bugs are still tiny, only measuring about 1/5” in length. They are brown, except just after a hearty meal, when they then appear to be more reddish brown and swollen. Being incredibly small and a common shade of brown, they can hide during the day in tiny nooks and crannies. Smaller colonies will stick closer to the banquet hall – the bed, for convenient access to their tasty host. Bed bugs are nocturnal and feed throughout the night. They prefer to eat every day. As their numbers grow, they will spill into other places within the room, eventually into adjacent rooms. In motels, hotels, apartments and other similar places, they will quickly spread throughout the building. They will slumber in picture frames, outlets, baseboards, telephones and anywhere else where they can nuzzle into a secure enclosure.

Signs of Bed Bugs

You can generally detect the midnight snacking by noticing itchy red blotches in a lined sequence of your exposed skin. Rusty color blood stains could adorn your sheets, and incredible small, barely noticeable red spots, the bed bug droppings, might also be tangled in the sheets. When the bed bugs bites, their saliva acts as an antiseptic so their host doesn’t feel the bite, along with an anti-coagulant to keep the blood flowing smoothly and constantly. They are generally full within 5-10 minutes of beginning their indulgence.
Bed bugs are not known to transmit any threatening diseases at this time, but their bites can be a real nuisance. If a host attempts to sleep in another room, the bed bugs will follow their food source. After a blood fest, females will lay anywhere between 1 and 5 eggs at a time and can lay over 200 eggs in their life. Bed Bugs can emit odors when their numbers are high, and can their colonies and grow extremely fast.
