There are three main types of cockroaches that are found across the United States and all three call Texas home. Although they are all considered a cockroach they each have their own unique characteristics and ways to treat them.
Flying American Cockroach
If you are on the lookout for an American cockroach you will searching for the largest of the three cockroaches. These nasty pests can grow up to 2 inches in length and can be identified by their reddish brown coloring. They also have a yellow band behind the back of their head that can be seen when they scurry past. Another distinction is they have wings that are fully developed and they can and will fly! They usually are like any other pest and are on the lookout for food, water and shelter. The best way to keep them out of your New York home is by sealing up any and all cracks that they might be able to sneak into and call a pest control company.
German Cockroach Infestation
The German cockroach is a lighter shade of brown and is more of a tan color. They also have a set of wings but are unable to fly. The cockroach is much smaller and are usually about a half an inch in length. They have darker lines that run parallel from its head to its wings. The German cockroach does not sting or bite and just like the American Cockroach it is in search of a warm safe place to stay and food and water. They tend to be found in warm moist places like sewers and dumpsters but can be in your home as well.
Are Oriental Cockroaches Harmful?
If you look over and see a fat shiny black cockroach you have stumbled across an oriental cockroach. They are not as big as an American cockroach but they are bigger than a German Cockroach. They also have wings but cannot fly either.
