How to Keep Bugs, Rodents & Pests Out of Your Pflugerville, TX House or Apartment

When it comes to pests in your home, most agree they are unwelcomed guests. Generally, pests are startling, pose a health threat, and / or cause structure damage. In any case, most people look for helpful tips and strategies to avoid harboring these intruders. With this in mind, we at A-Tex Pest Management would like to offer some suggestions on how you can help reduce the likelihood of infiltrating pests in your home.

Seal Your Home from Pests

Though pests can be inadvertently brought inside from hitchhiking in packages and merchandise, most come in through an open window, door, or a crack and gap in the foundations, walls, or roof. With this in mind, we suggest inspecting your home from top to bottom. If you like to have the doors or windows open in times of nice weather, be sure have screens in place that are clean and in good condition. During your inspection of the structure, take note of any damaged materials, gaps, holes, and cracks. Additionally, check the ventilation, utility lines, and other natural opening of the home. Make sure if any are found, they are properly sealed. Ventilation outlets can be protected with mesh covers.

Remove Outdoor Pest Harborage

There are many natural habitats in your backyard. Pests will seek refuge from the extreme weather and temperatures as well as from predators. When your yard creates ideal shelters for these pests, the easier it will be for them to encroach to your home where they can be driven inside looking for better living conditions and a convenient food and water source. TO keep the pests further from your home, clean up the clutter, toss the junk and organize the materials you are holding onto in the yard as far from the home as possible, including firewood. Firewood should be neatly stacked at lest 12-18 inches off the ground and no higher than 4 feet up. The further from the home the better. Keep the yard clippings bundled together and discard in the waste as soon as possible. Trim back the vegetation including, grass, shrubs, vines, and trees from the home. Keep in mind that most pests are looking for food, water, and a place to provide shelter, eliminating these things will keep pests population limited and reduce the risk of them invading.

Reduce Water & Moisture to Prevent Pests

Many pests rely on water and humid conditions to survive. Moist environments and standing water should be eliminated and/or reduced. Repair leaky pipes, faucets, hoses, and so on. Control the humidity throughout your home to keep the moist conditions to a minimal.

Keep Indoor Trash & Outdoor Dumpster Areas Clean

It is no secret a lot of pests will be attracted to the garbage, mostly to find something to eat. Open trash cans will easily draw these pests in. Prevent the garbage from being a beacon to these nasty critters by keeping lids secure, clean out the trash bins with hot soapy water every month or two and store the outdoor garbage bins as far from the home as possible.
