Field mice, as their name suggests, is a species of mice that typically live in rural areas and are found lurking in fields that have plenty of vegetation to provide them cover. Although field mice are known as an outdoor rodent, they will often invade homes and other structures in search of shelter and a permanent home. A-Tex Pest Management will share more about the field mouse, what problems they can cause and how to protect your home from an invasion of them.
Field Mice in House Walls, Gardens & Yards
Field mice become more active during the hot summer months where food is more abundant. At this time of year, the field mice will wander greater distances because of the abundance of food and cover of vegetation. Therefore, they will eventually find their way to and enter our homes and other structures. Once a major population of field mice invades the areas around or inside your home they can quickly become a major problem. Field mice will eat just about anything and will often chew through wood and wires found inside the home. Due to the coloring of field mice and their natural instincts to camouflage in both rural as well as urban areas they are hard to detect until a major population clearly announces their arrival.

Field Mice Prevention
Mice can be rather difficult to keep out of your home. They can fit through the smallest of cracks, so bear that in mind when we tell you that you need to keep mice from entering into your home. You will want to make sure you seal off any cracks large enough for a mouse to enter in from. You will want to use cement putty or something they won’t be able to chew through to seal the cracks. It also helps to cover vents and other larger openings such as chimneys with metal meshing. This all helps to keep them out. Additionally you will want to keep all food sealed up in containers that mice can’t chew or get into.
