Store Wood Properly

They will see this as a light snack and will infest your wood pile if you aren’t careful. If at all possible, you should try to store it at least 6 inches above the ground. Termites live in the ground and will more easily feed off the wood that is making contact with the ground. You should also avoid storing it near your home. Any wood pile should be at least 25 feet away from any entrance into your home to avoid infestation.
Get Rid of Old Wood & Stumps
When you remove a tree from your property, it may be tempting to leave the stump there and take care of it later. Old stumps in your yard are the prime place for termites, along with other pests, to take over. It will pay off to have it removed right away if you can avoid termites. Also, if you have any trees that are old and diseased, they should be removed sooner rather than later as well.
Trim Trees & Bushes
If you have trees and bushes that are near your home, you may want to consider removing them or at the very least, cutting them back. You don’t want any trees and bushes within 18 inches of your house to avoid termite infestation. Trees close to your home can attract other pests as well.
Seal Off Your Home
One of the biggest ways to keep termites from making their way inside your home is to seal off any entry points. You need to reinforce all of your doors and windows so that termites can’t easily gain access into the inside of your house. Don’t forget your foundation either. If there are any cracks or holes in the foundation, termites can weasel their way in and start destroying your home’s structure from the inside out.
Repair Leaks
Termites are attracted to wood that has been damaged by water. The softer wood is easier for them to eat. If you have any leaking pipes or notice that there is standing water anywhere around or near your home, it is important that you repair it as soon as possible to avoid damaging the wood surrounding your home.
