Pools are beacons for insects and bugs, including wasps. Wasps look for water which is used to build their nests as well as a place to quench their thirst. Wasps will fly about 3000 feet away from their nest to forage for food and water. Most people who are spending the summer by their pool are often forced to endure the company of stinging wasps. However, there are a few ways you can help keep wasps away from your pool and avoid their stings. A-Tex Pest Management will share how to keep wasps away from your pool this summer.
Wasp Control Methods
Wasp Nest Decoys: Wasps will sting if they are provoked or when defending their nest. There are a number of ways to help deter wasps away from your pool. One method uses “nest decoys.” Wasps are very territorial and other wasps will avoid wandering in another wasp’s territory. Using a decoy nest and hanging one or two near the pool can help deter other wasps as they fear they may be entering in another territory.
Diesel Fuel Traps: You can also lure wasps away from the pool to another location by using diesel fuel. Wasps are strangely attracted to diesel fuel. You can put the fuel in a small bottle away from the pool or near a nest which can lure them away and possibly kill those that enter the bottle.
Baits: You may notice that when combining a barbecue and a swimming party together there seems to be even more wasps. This is because wasps like raw meat. You can use raw meat as bait. With a good bait you can use a number of wasp traps to help capture wasps near your home. They may want water before food which means traps may not work all the time. However, it can help reduce the number of wasps invading your pool area.
Wasp Nest Removal: If there is a wasp nest near your home and they are frequently visiting your pool it is best to have the nest removed. Wasps will travel up to 3000 feet which is slightly more than half a mile. This means the nest may be anywhere in the neighborhood. However, if the nest is on your property you will have a massive number of wasps swarming around your pool. If you have access to the wasp nest, never try to remove it yourself. Wasps can sting repeatedly without dying and release attack pheromones. A DIY attempt can easily provoke the colony and risks severe reactions. contact a pest control service to remove the nest and reclaim your pool.
